With Everclear, American Hi-Fi and Flipp

I just have to say that I caught MF4 for the first time last night when I went to see Everclear, and in my mind, they stole the show! What an awesome display of raw Rock & Roll energy & talent!

Being one of a handful of "Thirty-somethings" in the room, I was not the least bit impressed with Flipp as I found them to be all gimmick and no substance. Suddenly, I was questioning whether getting there early was such a good idea. About 1 minute into MF4's first song I knew I did the right thing. They ROCKED!

I wish I could tell you what songs they played, but I haven't a clue. I will be ordering the album on monday so I can find out. I would have tried to get one after the show, but I was spent. Once again, they did finish with the Who's Baba O'Riley, which had many of the youngsters around me saying "what song is this???" curious to know what was driving this old guy to hoot & holler so much! As someone who has seen the Who 8 times, I can tell you they did a spectacular job with it!

I was most impressed with their talent & musicianship. They are solid and well balanced. If I had anything negative to say, it would be that at times they sounded very much like Pearl Jam &/or Creed. In my mind, this isn't a bad thing as they definately aren't ripping anyone off. My only fear is that this may hold them back from making it "Big Time." Let's hope not!

Amercian Hi-Fi was okay, but they had a tough act to follow. Everclear was good, but in many ways they were predicatable. I also thought the sound for them sucked, you couldn't hear any of the vocal ranges. (center stage about 7-8 rows deep) This was not the case with MF4.

So, back to my original statement, if MF4 wasn't on the bill, I would have been disappointed with my evening. If by chance the guys in the band read this post, KEEP ON DOING EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING! Make sure you stop in Philly every tour, the TLA is the venue for you!

I'm A FAN!
